Mara Ohman? The one with nests!
23. April 2025The theme of nests has taken root in me, it comes back to me regularly and I regularly devote myself to nests.
I have already used various techniques for my nests. I have created a nest with dry pastels, oil paints, also in acrylic. Now I have let myself be drawn in even deeper and I have started to look at the nests that I carry within me. All the nests that I have inherited. The nest into which I was born, the ones that I am creating anew and the one that I carry within me for myself. I applied the charcoal directly to the canvas, the relaxed dynamic strokes grew almost by themselves. Part of my works often includes flowing water, and this process is no different. Even with nests, water flows, reveals, carries away, nourishes.
„The swan’s nest“ is a metaphor for the need for a safe space, a refuge in a world of constantly moving energy. I offer a protected space for contemplation, for connecting with yourself, for body and mind in a unique monogamous relationship.
„The constellation of nests I“ represents a community in which the rules are firmly established. But subtle deviations in form are permitted, as is individualistic expression, and where even the most private matters ultimately do not remain hidden, but leak into the common space. In a dynamic drawing, I captured naturalistic shapes that resemble bird or insect cocoons, and I supported the placement in space with verticality and gravity using flowing water.
„All My Inherited Nests“ is a large-format drawing of 120 x 160 cm. I have not yet explored them all, but the fact is that I carry them with me my whole life. Nests from previous generations, they are all in me and I am in them.
In this topic and technique, I feel free and this is my home theme.
